Ukrainian National Guard Honors Lieutenant Colonel Jennifer Pritzkerwith Badge of Honor at the #StandWithUkraine Special Program

TAWANI Enterprises is pleased to announce that its Chairwoman, Lieutenant Colonel Jennifer N. Pritzker, IL ARNG (Retired), was presented with a Badge of Honor from the Ukrainian National Guard’s Presidential Brigade. This recognition, awarded on September 17 at the Chicago Cultural Center during the #StandWithUkraine reception and special program, celebrates her steadfast commitment to supporting Ukraine in its war against Russia. Through both her personal efforts and grants provided by her foundation, TAWANI Foundation, Lt. Col. Pritzker (Ret.) has contributed more than $5.4 million in relief to Ukraine. Additionally, she recently traveled to Ukraine, in February, to provide humanitarian support. The award ceremony included remarks from Serhiy Koledov, the Consul General of Ukraine in Chicago, and a performance by the Ukrainian band ANTYTILA.

“I am deeply honored to be recognized and receive the Badge of Honor from the distinguished Ukrainian National Guard’s Presidential Brigade,” said Lt. Col. Pritzker (Ret.). “This accolade represents not just a personal achievement but also underscores the importance of our collective responsibility in addressing and resolving the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Through steadfast commitment, unity, and strategic action, we can contribute to achieving a just and enduring peace. This recognition further strengthens my resolve to support and advance the cause of stability and reconciliation in the region.”

The evening began with opening remarks from Serhiy Koledov, the Consul General of Ukraine in Chicago, followed by the Badge of Honor presentation and inauguration of Lt. Col. Pritzker (Ret.). Guests then enjoyed a screening of the short film “Culture vs War” before being treated to an exclusive acoustic performance by the Ukrainian band ANTYTILA. The band, currently on a U.S. tour to promote the “Culture vs War” project, highlights the stories of Ukrainian cultural artists who have left their creative pursuits to defend their homeland.

Attendees also had the chance to engage in an open discussion with the members of ANTYTILA, covering topics such as Ukrainian resistance, the future of Ukraine, the band’s musical journey, and their experiences with military service. The evening concluded with a raffle and private reception.

Lt. Col. Pritzker (Ret.) strongly believes that a resolution for the war would benefit not only Ukraine but also other nations, including the U.S. She stresses that supporting Ukrainians now can save lives in both countries and potentially avoid the need for U.S. military involvement. Under her leadership, TAWANI Foundation has provided significant aid to Ukraine. Her notable contributions include $40,000 for humanitarian aid through the Salvation Army, $255,000 for GPS equipment via Multi Source Reckoning System LLC, and more than $1.3 million for cold weather gear for the Ukrainian National Guard.

Her most significant donation was to Operation White Stork, a non-profit organization led by U.S.veterans. Her contribution exceeded $3.6M, which includes a $1.5M challenge grant. This funding facilitated the provision of battlefield individual first aid kits to National Guard brigades, as well as humanitarian aid and support for medical needs in Ukraine. Operation White Stork utilizes the skills of entrepreneurs and U.S. military veterans to deliver resources to end users. The organization’s team works directly on the ground in Ukraine to ensure gifts go directly to those in need and has a “no weapons” policy for the type of assistance it provides.

“Colonel Jennifer Pritzker’s transformational gifts through TAWANI Foundation have enabled White Stork to become the leading supplier of combat first aid kits to the Ukrainian military, with close to 100,000 IFAKs delivered to date,” said William McNulty, Co-founder and Head of Mission of White Stork. “I also appreciate that she has visited the frontlines and walked through the minefields to better understand the war from the perspectives of the women & men holding the line between freedom and autocracy.”

TAWANI Enterprises is pleased to announce its President and CEO, Col. Jennifer Pritzker, was named the 2023 Elizabeth Dole Foundation’s Caregiver Ally award recipient during the Foundation’s annual Heroes & History Makers celebration on October 11 at The Anthem in Washington, D.C. The award recognizes individuals who have provided outstanding support to military caregivers, which includes wounded, ill, and injured service members and veterans at home. Hidden Heroes Campaign Chair Tom Hanks and Hidden Heroes Ambassador Savannah Guthrie, co-anchor of NBC News’ TODAY, headlined the event.

A major initiative of the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, Hidden Heroes is a multi-year, multi-faceted campaign that brings vital attention to the untold stories of military caregivers and seeks solutions for the tremendous challenges and long-term needs they face. Hidden Heroes encourages military caregivers to connect to resources and inspires individuals and organizations to support military caregivers in their communities. Col. Pritzker served as the campaign’s vice chair in 2016.

A retired Lieutenant Colonel of the U.S. Army for nearly three decades, Col. Jennifer Pritzker served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve, and the Illinois Army National Guard. A businesswoman, investor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, she founded TAWANI Enterprises in 1994. She is also the founder of three non-profits: Pritzker Military Foundation, TAWANI Foundation, and the Pritzker Military Museum & Library.

Senator Dole was the first to call the nation’s attention to those caring for a wounded, ill, or injured service member or veteran at home. The event is the Foundation’s annual tribute to America’s 5.5 million military caregivers, the loved ones who voluntarily care for wounded, ill, and injured service members and veterans at home.

“As a veteran, I became active in the caregiver community because I was committed to supporting the people who sacrificed so much to defend our country, both directly in uniform and indirectly as their caregivers,” Col. Jennifer Pritzker said in her award acceptance speech. “There are more than 20 million living veterans in America today. Not all of them were wounded in battle, but they all served and sacrificed, and all deserve their nation’s recognition and care. Their service cost them something, and we owe them a debt of gratitude.”

During the event, a $2 million challenge grant from the Pritzker Military Foundation on behalf of the Pritzker Military Museum & Library was announced. The gift, which will be payable over four years, will support the Elizabeth Dole Foundation’s caregiver programs and community outreach.

“We acknowledge and honor the invaluable contributions of military caregivers nationwide,” said Chief Operating Officer of Philanthropic Activities, Susan Rifkin. “The Elizabeth Dole Foundation’s unwavering dedication has a profound impact on these extraordinary caregivers. This grant is a testament to our support for a community of heroic individuals who stand by those who have defended our nation and often go unnoticed.”

Retired Lt. Col. Jennifer Pritzker Receives Award for Excellence in Architectural Stewardship from the Society of Architectural Historians

Retired Lt. Col. Jennifer N. Pritzker was honored tonight with the Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) Award for Architectural Excellence at the 8th Annual Awards Gala at The Racquet Club of Chicago. Pritzker, who is the founder and president of TAWANI Enterprises and a notable philanthropist, has built a legacy around preserving and restoring properties that represent historical and cultural significance. TAWANI Foundation, one of the philanthropic arms of TAWANI Enterprises, is also the presenting sponsor of the annual awards gala.

The SAH Awards for Architectural Excellence represent a unique coming together of architectural practice and academic study. The SAH Awards Gala is the Society’s largest annual fundraising event with proceeds supporting SAH’s educational programs and publications, and the continued restoration of its landmark headquarters in Chicago, Charnley-Persky House (1891–1892), designed by Adler & Sullivan with then-draftsman Frank Lloyd Wright.

“This year’s honorees represent some of the best and most innovative work being done in architecture and historic preservation today,” said Pauline Saliga, executive director of the Society of Architectural Historians. “The honorees showed a remarkable sensitivity to the needs and preferences of this dynamic, growing market by incorporating elements like green building, universal design and structural aesthetics.”
Other winners include Awards for Architectural Excellence to Ralph Johnson, FAIA, Sharon Johnston and Mark Lee.

In addition to leading TAWANI, Pritzker is the founder and chairwoman of the Pritzker Military Museum and Library. She has supported community-based restoration projects, including three in the Rogers Park area – the Lang House (1919), which now functions as a bed and breakfast, Mayne Stage (1912), an Art Deco event space featuring a lounge and performance area, and the Emil Bach House (1921) designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, which functions as a vacation rental and event space. She is also co-owner of two historical mansions in Evanston, which both serve as luxury bed and breakfasts. Stone Terrace Bed and Breakfast, which was built as a Queen

Anne in 1883 and converted to a Tudor Revival Style in 1910. Stone Porch by the Lake, which is also a historic Tudor Revival Style mansion, was built in 1889. Pritzker also co-owns Lincoln Way Inn, a Victorian bed and breakfast along the famous Lincoln Highway in Franklin Grove, Illinois.

“Historic preservation is vital to our nation’s heritage, economic development and community revitalization,” said Pritzker. “Many buildings of historical significance have experienced the type of deterioration plaguing the structures of many aging buildings. They suffer from structural, safety and building system deficiencies, requiring comprehensive internal and external renovations. Each one is reminiscent of earlier times and if not restored, are a social and economic liability and a danger to the public’s safety and welfare in their present condition.”

To further support Pritzker’s dedication and investment to historic preservation and restoration, and bring new life into these historic buildings, the TAWANI Foundation recently made a $1 million gift and $1 million challenge grant to support the $25 million comprehensive restoration of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Unity Temple (1906–1908) in Oak Park, Illinois.

Among the other awards Pritzker has received for her preservation work include winning the 2017 Design Evanston award for Stone Terrace, the 2016 Legendary Landmark by Landmarks Illinois and the 2016 Margery B. Perkins Award by the City of Evanston, also for Stone Terrace. Both Evanston honors she shared with Paul Janicki Architects, Berglund Construction, and others who worked on the project.
