An Inspiring Life of Leadership and Service

Lieutenant Colonel Jennifer N. Pritzker (Retired) served 27 years in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve, and Illinois Army National Guard. Upon her retirement in 2001, she received an honorary promotion to Colonel in the Illinois National Guard. A historian, businesswoman, investor, developer, and philanthropist, she has dedicated her career to advancing military history, education, and heritage preservation.

Business Leadership and the Founding of TAWANI Enterprises

In 1994, Colonel Pritzker founded TAWANI Enterprises, Inc., a forward‑thinking organization that manages a private equity portfolio of early‑stage and established companies across diverse industries. Through its philanthropic arms, the TAWANI Foundation and the Pritzker Military Foundation, TAWANI Enterprises also supports nonprofit initiatives focused on military history, education, health, and cultural preservation. Its internal companies and supported organizations include TAWANI Property Management, Mission94 Firearms Education Center, TAWANI Ventures, Master Wings Publishing, the Cold War Veterans Memorial, the Pritzker Military Museum & Library, the TAWANI Foundation, the Pritzker Military Foundation, and Aurum Trading, a respected gold coin market maker.


Demonstrating a lifelong commitment to service and historical stewardship, Colonel Pritzker serves as Founder and Chairwoman of both the TAWANI Foundation and the Pritzker Military Foundation. Reflecting her dedication to honoring the legacy of military service, she established the Pritzker Military Museum & Library in 2003 to preserve and share the stories of the Citizen Soldier.

Civic Leadership, Board Service, and Community Impact

She is also a partner in Second Act, a boutique shop specializing in the professional fitting and sale of prosthetic mammary devices for women recovering from breast cancer. Her broader investment and partnership portfolio includes Chicago:Blend, Chicago Stars FC, Ceek Women’s Health, Good Growth Capital, Iroquois Valley Farmland REIT, and The Pride Fund—underscoring her commitments to innovation, community development, women’s health, sustainable agriculture, and inclusive economic growth. She additionally serves on the boards of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association and Squadron Holdings LLC.

From 2000 to 2008, Colonel Pritzker participated in four expeditions to Antarctica with astronaut Dr. Owen Garriott, Captain James Lovell, and microbiologist Dr. Birgit Sattler, the first Austrian woman to reach the South Pole. For her contributions, she received the Antarctica Service Medal from the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Armed Forces. Inspired by these experiences, she established the Robert A. Pritzker Center for Meteoritics and Polar Studies at Chicago’s Field Museum in 2009 in honor of her father.

Her civic and academic distinctions include the City of Chicago’s John A. Logan Patriot Award (2005), the Damen Award from Loyola University Chicago (2012), a Badge of Honor from the Ukrainian National Guard’s Presidential Brigade (2024), and the announcement of Pritzker Valley for future inclusion in the U.S. Geographic Names Information System (2025). In 2026, the Wende Museum in Culver City, California, named the Jennifer N. Pritzker Plaza in her honor.

Military Career

Before founding TAWANI Enterprises, Inc., Colonel Pritzker began her military career in 1974 as a Private in the U.S. Army, serving with the 82nd Airborne Division. After completing ROTC at Loyola University Chicago, she earned an active‑duty commission and rose to the rank of Captain. Her service included assignments with the 101st Airborne Division and VII Corps in Germany. After leaving active duty in 1985, she continued to serve in both the Army Reserve and the Illinois Army National Guard until her retirement in 2001.

Military Awards & Honors

Her awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Antarctica Service Medal, and the State of Louisiana Legion of Merit. She also earned the Air Assault Badge, Parachutist Badge, and foreign parachutist badges from Israel, Russia, Canada, Poland, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.


Education

Colonel Pritzker holds a B.A. in History from Loyola University Chicago and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Chemical Officer Advanced Course, the Quartermaster Officer Advanced Course, and the Command and General Staff College. She received an Honorary Doctorate of Military Science from Norwich University in 2007, where she also served on the Board of Trustees Athletic Committee.

Personal

She resides in Chicago and is the parent of three children—Tal Hava, Andrew, and William—and three grandchildren. The name “TAWANI” is an anagram of letters drawn from her children’s first names.
