Col. Jennifer Pritzker’s TAWANI Foundation Announces a $100,000 Program Grant for Injustice Watch

CHICAGO – March 21, 2024 – The TAWANI Foundation and its founder, Colonel (IL) Jennifer N. Pritzker, IL ARNG (Retired), announced a grant to Injustice Watch, a Chicago-based nonprofit journalism organization that examines issues of equity and justice in the court system. The grant was awarded to Injustice Watch to cover the costs of developing and producing their 2024 Cook County, Illinois judicial election guide. Injustice Watch created the concept of guides to provide voters with comprehensive, nonpartisan information regarding the Cook County judicial elections.

Injustice Watch does not make recommendations or offer endorsements in its election guides. Judicial elections in Cook County can have significant impacts on the county and its citizens, and the nonprofit’s goal is to provide neutral but comprehensive information on candidates to help voters make informed decisions.

“The judicial system is one of the pillars of our democracy, and Injustice Watch is providing an invaluable service with its judicial election guides,” said Pritzker. “We are proud to support the organization’s efforts to provide voters with in-depth information on the candidates, which in turn fosters a fair and impartial election representative of the people of Cook County.”

The TAWANI Foundation is the philanthropic arm of TAWANI Enterprises, a Chicago-based firm with businesses spanning property management, hospitality, publishing, and military history, preservation, and education. The Foundation supports non-profits with grants across five main categories: education, gender & human sexuality, cultural institutions & preservation, environmental initiatives, and health & human services. In addition, the TAWANI Foundation provides emergency support to fund critical needs related to current events.

“Since 2016, Injustice Watch’s judicial election guides have provided Cook County voters with in-depth, nonpartisan information about every candidate on the ballot,” said Injustice Watch Executive Director, Juliet Sorensen. “The TAWANI Foundation’s generous grant to Injustice Watch supports the production of both the print and digital versions of our guide and allows us to deepen our community engagement and reach voters throughout Cook County. Access to information is the essential first step in a participatory democracy; TAWANI’s support of Injustice Watch makes it possible.”

The grant covers two sets of guides for the year – the March 19, 2024, judicial primary election, and the November 5, 2024 election – which includes judicial candidates on the Presidential ballot.
